In Pictures: 2015 Alderley Edge May Fair

The 2015 Alderley Edge May Fair proved another hugely successful event attracting thousands of visitors.

The celebrations started with the spectacular parade featuring the wizard and his band of knights, stilt walkers, acrobats, jazz band, town crier, clowns, Shetland ponies, vintage cars, tractors and fire engine, Robinsons' Brewery dray and vintage lorry, hockey players and fancy dress contestants.

The May Queen, six-year-old Amy Evans, was accompanied by the Rose Queen, 14-year-old Eleanor Whitlow and the two princesses, Nicole Reeves age 10 and Hannah Reeves age 8, who travelled in a horse drawn carriage.

The parade then entered the park where Amy declared the Alderley Edge May Fair officially open and the entertainment kicked off with Titan, the 8 foot robot, who made his first appearance at the May Fair.

There was plenty to do in the park with entertainment provided throughout the afternoon including the fun dog show, donkey derby, cheerleaders and dancers, dog training and clowns. Whilst over on the Golden Triangle Stage there were performances from local schools, Pepper Town Jazz Band, Moss Rose Community Band along with open mic sessions. Another new addition for this year was the National Festival Circus with slapstick clowns, magic, juggling, spinning hoops and plenty of laughs.

Winners in the fancy dress competition were Hugo (2), India (3), Elissia (5), Finn (5), Maja (7), Lilly (8), and Erin (8).

Amongst the many attractions in the park there was also hockey coaching, crazy golf, zorb balls, a bungie trampoline, bouncy castles, fairground rides, a storyteller, a whole host of stalls from local businesses and organisations plus a wide selection of food and drink.

For the second year, the May Fair celebrations kick-offed on the Friday evening this year with a fun bowling competition in the park, 5-a-side football competition, followed by a 5k fun run. Afterwards the crowds were entertained with open mic sessions organised by The Yard.

The May Fair was organised for the 5th consecutive year by Alderley Edge resident Christine Munro and a small group of volunteers including Geoff Hall, Harriet Hill, Paul Marshall, Colin Mills, Dave Barraclough, Paul Chilton, Anna Bainbridge, Kath Foster and Kate Barraclough.

They put in an enormous amount of time and effort into creating this fantastic free event for the community.

Organiser Christine Munro said "I have had some lovely feedback this afternoon. I think it is nice that it is a bit different each time, everyone seems to like that - the change and variety - and that's what I tried to achieve."

Christine added "The team this year have been fantastic, we have such a good team now."

Very many thanks to the Alderley Edge May Fair Committee & volunteer organisers for the hard work in putting the village Fair together.
Alderley Edge Hockey Club were pleased to take part for a fourth year running.
We would encourage more village business's, clubs and Societys to participate on an annual basis. It's a great opportunity to engage with the public and recruit new members and supporters.
