Cheshire East Council has approved the first round of community grants for 2015/16.
Amongst the local activities to be awarded a community grant is Alderley Edge May Fair which has been awarded £1000 to enable the organisers to provide additional entertainment this year. The group has funding from elsewhere, as well as income coming from stall fees, to cover other costs, such as marquees, toilets and entertainers.
The Alderley Edge Orchestra applied for a grant of £350 to go towards professional conductors and soloists for their concerts. A grant was awarded in 2014 for the same purpose, so, because repeat funding cannot be granted, they have been awarded £350 towards other project costs of music hire and instruments.
The Lindow Singers received a grant of £400 to go towards the cost of music hire, choir and an orchestra for their 2015 concerts, the group is also contributing themselves with the income from ticket sales, and Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra was awarded a grant of £350 to help cover the cost of music hire for a concert taking place in June.
The aim of the Community Grants Scheme is to support small scale community projects that will improve the quality of life for local communities. A total of 129 organisations received funding totalling £225,471 in 2014/15.
Applications for Community Grants must be made using the Council's Community Grant or Community Led Planning Grant application form (whichever is applicable) and associated guidance notes that are available online on the Council's website.
