Four long serving volunteers have retired from Alderley Edge Luncheon Club, which serves a hot two course meal on Tuesdays and Thursdays to retired people living in the area.
The club, which celebrated its 50th birthday at the Alderley Edge Methodist Church in March 2014, is run by royal voluntary service volunteers.
The four friends, Linda Batson, Margaret Seddon, Margaret Smith and Jane Middleton made up an entire team and have cooked lunch once a month for the last seventeen years. Sadly they decided that the time had come to step down in December, although being dedicated volunteers they intend volunteering elsewhere.
As a consequence, the luncheon club manager Anne Bale is looking for some new volunteers. She promises not to expect 17 years of service but would be interested to hear from people available from 10am-2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, during term time. There are also opportunities for people with less time to spare.
Anne Bale said "No experience is necessary but volunteers need to be willing to prepare vegetables, set tables, wash up. Experienced cooks would be extremely welcome but it it also a good place for novice cooks to gain experience and pick up lots of cooking tips. The most important quality is for someone to enjoy working as part of a team.
'When Margaret Seddon was promoted to team leader and recruited three friends to join her, none of us dreamed that their successful partnership would continue for such a long time. They spent their last duty making arrangements to keep in regular contact.
She added "Luncheon club is a great place to make friends whilst doing something very worthwhile."
Anne can be contacted on 01625 582514 or via email at [email protected].
