Workshop provides tasty start to new topic

Year 6 children at Alderley Edge Community Primary school were treated to a tasty start to their new topic, 'Where Does Chocolate Come From?' with a visit from local chocolatier, Oliver Dunn.

Oliver volunteered to come into school and run a workshop, teaching the children about the history, geography and science associated with working with chocolate. The children were able to watch him create different shapes and add decorative techniques then have a go themselves, producing their own hand-decorated designs.

This first hand experience provided the Year 6 pupils with a memorable start to their studies and laid the foundations for developing their learning further.

Mrs Lindsey Walsh, Year 6 teacher said, "We are very grateful to Oliver for sparing us the time and coming to talk to the children. As a school we welcome opportunities to develop links with the local businesses that will enhance the learning opportunities for the children."

One child commented that learning from people who actually do the job makes learning more real and fun, especially where chocolate is involved!
