Television presenter Ruth Langsford has had her sight restored and no longer needs to use glasses or contact lenses thanks to permanent lens replacement surgery offered at Optegra Manchester Eye Hospital. And she is in the area on 19 November to tell local residents all about it.
Ruth, 54, describes the experience as 'liberating and life-changing' and urges people to look into the procedure which also removes or prevents cataracts.
Ruth explains: "Life before the surgery was very irritating and frustrating. It was particularly difficult at work if I had to adjust from reading auto cue or interviewing guests to checking facts on my notes. I would have to have my glasses to hand at all times, to put them on to read my notes and then take them off again."
Having been told that she wasn't suitable for laser eye surgery Ruth had given up all hope of life without glasses but then she met with the team at Optegra who offer Clarivu™.
Clarivu is the Optegra brand name for its individually tailored, consultant-led vision correction (or Refractive Lens Exchange – RLE) package. RLE is a proven and permanent lens replacement procedure that could eliminate or reduce your dependence on glasses.
Kate Greenhalgh, from Knutsford, also recently had Clarivu at Optegra and, like Ruth, had found out she was not suitable for laser.
She jokes that the procedure was so successful: "The only downside is you can see yourself in HD once it's done! And it's scary!
"It was such a pleasure to get rid of all my glasses, and I could not believe it that I filled an entire bag full! No more not being able to read a menu or a text...my whole quality of life is better, I am back on track!"
Ruth Langsford continued: "My sight with contact lenses just wasn't sharp enough, so I used to mark up my scripts wearing glasses and then I'd put my lenses in for the show – but it was always a relief to take them out afterwards.
"The freedom from wearing glasses is amazing. When I used to leave the house my main priority would be glasses above wallet or keys but now I just grab my bag and off I go. I don't even think about it anymore."
The Clarivu™ package is available exclusively from Optegra specialist eye hospital group. Optegra Manchester Eye Hospital is based in Didsbury, with has an outreach clinic in Wilmslow.
Ruth Langsford is hosting an exclusive event in a Cheshire hotel from 7.00pm on Wednesday 19 November to celebrate her new sight and share information with others who may be interested in the procedure.
