Inspired by the achievements of Chief Executive David Pollock and Sales Director Warren Pryer, who raised over £40,000 in The Prince’s Trust Costa Rica Challenge 2008, five Chess People from different departments have come together to give their seniors a run for their money.
The Chess-Nuts will be taking part in The Prince's Trust Capgemini Wild UK Challenge which will push them to the limits both physically and mentally. The three day competition, at the beginning of September, involves hiking, biking and kayaking 100 miles across breathtaking stretches of Somerset and Devon, racing against other teams and the clock.
The team has been training hard for the big event, with numerous punishing bike rides and a climb up Mount Snowdon to ease themselves in. The team has also been doing a weekly kayaking training session. Matt Beswick explained "We have all been taking the training very seriously and we are all proud of one another working so hard as a team, all for such a worth while cause.”
In addition to all the training the team have their work cut out as they have to raise over £4000 for charity by the end of August to be able to compete. Team member Michael Leighton from Customer Service explained that "Raising money for The Prince’s Trust is a great reason for competing in this challenge. Not only is it a great cause but we are having some fun with our fund raising too.”
In an effort to boost their funds The Chess-Nuts are offering to do odd jobs for the local community in return for donations. The team will be bag packing in Somerfield this Saturday from 10-2pm and all day Sunday. Next weekend (1st & 2nd August) they will be cleaning cars at The County Hotel on London Road 10.30-4pm, for a minimum £5 donation per car. Alternatively they will walk your dog or mow the lawn.
