Residents of Thirlmere Close had a surprise this morning when they woke to find 80 sheep gathered outside their homes and traipsing across their gardens.
The animals escaped from the fields near Pearson's tomato farm, off Blackshaw Lane, at about 6.15am and made their way to the cup-de-sac off Grasmere Road at about 7.30am.
The farmer explained they had been winter grazing there before being taken up to the Derbyshire Hills for the summer.
Police were called to the scene to assist the farmer and his dog with rounding up the herd. The first dozen or so sheep went into the trailer about 9am and the last ones were herded up just before 10am, leaving quite a bit of mess behind them.
The farmer has spoken to the residents about any damage caused and will be returning to the close to clean up after his animals.
