Exciting plans for this year's Alderley Edge May Fair are well underway to create a week of community events leading up to the fair on Saturday, 17th May.

A team of volunteers are working to organise a Quiz at The Yard which will take place on Wednesday 7th May and activities on Friday 16th include a crown green round robin bowling competition, starting at 5.30pm, in the park.

At 7.30pm a fun run will starts outside Barclays Bank. The initial plan had been a hill race up Macclesfield Road but the route had to be changed. Instead the runners will set off down London Road, onto Ryleys Lane and then Chorley Hall Lane. They will complete this circuit twice for the 5k run which will finish in the park.

The festivities will continue in the park where there will be a licensed bar, open until 10pm, The Yard will be providing food and organising an open mic session in the marquee, so there will be live music as well.

Organiser Christine Munro commented "The runners and the bowlers will be able to enjoy refreshments and entertainment, and the evening is open to any members of the public who would like to come down and join us."

On the Saturday, prior to the parade, a fancy dress bed race will take place in the village centre, more details to follow, with teams raising funds for their chosen charity.

Then to round off, the May Fair itself will be followed by a May Fair ball on the evening of Saturday 17th May.

Christine added "Three years ago when I first thought of the May Fair I thought it would be great if we could have a week of events in the village. Traders, local organisations, churches, schools etc could all have their event, promoting their business or their cause. It would bring lots of new people into the village and everyone would benefit but I ran out of energy and couldn't do any more so it never happened.

"However, this year we have more helpers and I think the traders feel it is beneficial for them, so we are hoping to have things going on in and around the village for the week from 12th to 17th May."

The organising committee are keen to hear from local businesses that would like to an organise an event during May Fair week, 12th to 17th May.
