For the second year running an Alderley Edge shop is organising a campaign to provide sweet treats for soldiers stationed in Afghanistan this Valentines.
Mr Simms Old Sweet Shoppe will be sending boxes filled with sweets to the British forces to help bring a smile to their faces and boost morale.
Judy O'Brien explained "Soldiers stationed in Afghanistan sacrifice much for their country. Our service men and women need to be made to feel appreciated. They can feel cut off and far away from their families. The most important things they need, are the things that connect them with home."
Local residents and businesses can help by donating show boxes and sweets. For every 200g bags of sweets bought Mr Simms will donate a 100g fro their 99p range. Alternatively people can choose to donate something smaller or businesses and organisations can come together to send their own box.
To accompany the donations, people can write a letter, note, poem or draw a picture to go in the box.
Operation Shoebox, who regularly send parcels out to Afghanistan are supporting the campaign and arranging for the boxes to be transported to the troops in time for Valentine's Day.
Judy O'Brien added "Last January local people were hugely supportive even writing poems, drawing pictures, sending cards and letters to include in the sweet parcels. We received several letters back from the troops telling us how much it meant to receive parcels full of things like Drumstick lollies, rhubarb and custard, mega sours, jelly beans and Lion's wine gums!"
The parcels need to leave the UK before February 4th so if you would like to support the campaign visit the shop at 14 London Road or call 01625 582117.
