Methodist Sunday School in the 1950s

The above photo has kindly been sent to us by Graham McClelland who moved to the village in January 1949, when he was just 16 months old.

Graham believes the photo was taken in 1952 or 1953 and shows the inside of the Methodist School Room on Chapel Road, where the Sunday School was held.

Graham does not know who any of the adults are sitting around the room but recognises himself (known as Graham Moore at the time) sitting on the left of the second row. After the space there is Kevin Brown and Ginetta Begley, also on that row are Harry Halcroft at the end and Dave Hewit.

Graham also recognises Andrew Wallace sitting near the back in striped blazer and to his right on the end of the row is Brian Hancock.

Do let us know if you recognise anyone else in the photo via the comment box below.

That is brilliant!! My Mum would've been 12 so not moved to the area I don't think, but my Dad was around then, so maybe he would've recognised some of the faces.... love old pics like these!!

I agree Steve it is local history, .There must be many photos of local events such as Rose Queens, school events etc, lying long forgotten in albums and attics, once this history is lost it is lost forever, and i believe that would be a tragic mistake. Anyone having old photos please send them to Alderley Edge web .The Mrs Beattie site proves there is a lot of local knowledge .

(photo has now been added above).
