Budding musicians will have the opportunity to jam with a legendary drummer next week.
To celebrate the opening of Mainstage Music School in Wilmslow, Mike Joyce drummer from the seminal band, The Smiths, will be on hand to jam with potential students and share his experience.
Mainstage has been formed by music industry professionals with over 20 years of experience, tutors students of all ages and abilities and - within a single lesson- offers the opportunity for them to perform alongside other students in a band jam session.
Mike Hosker explained "Mainstage's goal is to inspire students of all ages and abilities to engage in stimulating music activities through structured guitar, bass and drum tuition. The Mainstage system places emphasis on performing in a group, encourages participation and builds confidence while rapidly developing usable playing skills, improving technical abilities and establishing music theory."
Commented on why he is involved, Mike Joyce said "When I first looked at drum notation it was just dots on a page that I couldn't really relate to, it didn't seem to reflect what I was actually doing on the kit. Giving young people the opportunity to put theory into practice straight away is a brilliant idea."
He continued "I think its fantastic how Mainstage focuses on introducing and quickly applying new techniques and skills in a real live playing environment, it's the best way of making those dots make sense."
Opening night celebrations will kick off at 4pm on Thursday, September 26th at Wilmslow Parish Hall. Attendees will receive free "taster sessions" on guitar, bass and/or drums as well as having the opportunity to jam with Mike Joyce.
