Former building society branch to close

The Britannia branch in Alderley Edge will close next month as part of the final stage of the merger between Britannia and The Co-operative Bank which was announced in August 2009.

The local branch at 10, London Road will shut at 1.30pm on Monday 2nd September.

In January the Co-operative Bank announced it would close 37 branches and unify their high street branch network under one single Co-operative Bank brand.

The nearest branch, which will be renamed and given a new look as The Co-operative Bank, will be on Alderley Road, Wilmslow.

Typical ............. a merger / takeover and once again numerous branches have to close to compensate for someone's hair-brained scheme to become a major player in the banking sector !
In the meantime, many employees have lost their jobs due to this merger.
