As part of their ongoing spire appeal, St Philips and St James' Church are hosting an interesting concert featuring 4 female harpists.

Clouds Quartet was formed in Manchester, whilst Elfair Dyer, Rebecca Mills, Esther Swift and Angelina Warburton were studying at Royal Northern College of Music under the leadership of Eira Lynn Jones.

Following the success of their debut album Clouds, they performed at the Bridgewater Hall, Natural History Museum and the Baltic in Gateshead.

This summer sees the girls launch their second album Water and as part of their tour they will perform at St Philips and St James' Church on Friday 19th July at 7.30pm.

The Revd Jane Parry, said "We are very pleased to host the concert and are looking forward to hearing and seeing the four girls entertain us with these magnificent instruments."

During the interval there will be an opportunity to see the harps up close.

This concert is part of the ongoing Spire appeal to raise funds to repair the spire. The Church which is 160 years old this year is a grade ll listed building. During the last inspection it was discovered that the Victorian iron work in the spire had rusted and this had caused cracking to the stone work. The affected metal and damaged stonework is in urgent need of replacing. This is a complex matter requiring careful structural planning.

So far the appeal has raised over £64,000 of the £150,000 needed.

Tickets, priced £10 and £7 for students, are available by calling 078840265061 or 01625 573985 or emailing [email protected].
