Having cycled coast to coast, raising over £6000 for Zoe's Place, an Alderley Edge father of three is now preparing for a mammoth cycle challenge.
Ian Cartwright, 39, is attempting the Raid Pyreneen next month in memory of his late grandfather John Cartwright, who died after a battle with lung cancer.
The challenge will be a real family affair as Ian will be joined on the ride by his four cousins Martyn Court, Michael Court, Graeme Court and Lee Townsend. Whilst his father Jim Cartwright and two uncles Bob Court and John Bourton will make up the support team.
They will be raising money for Cancer Research.
The Raid Raid Pyreneen is a timed bicycle challenge over a route that traverses the length of the Pyrenees between Hendaye on the Atlantic coast and Cerbère on the Mediterranean. The event began in 1950 and is organised and overseen by the Cyclo-Club Béarnais in Pau. The 720 km route travels over 18 mountain passes with a total assent of 11,000 metres.
The challenge must to be completed in under 100 hours, something which is achieved by only around 300 people each year.
Speaking about the Raid Pyreneen, Ian said "This challenge has been an ambition for the past 5 years, to do it in memory of my grandfather and with my cousins, uncles and father should make for a special trip.
"Having never cycled in the high mountains before we don't really know what to expect, but we have prepared properly so fingers crossed we should succeed."
