Doing something funny for money?

This Friday marks the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day which so far has raised over £600m and helped to change countless lives forever.

Red Nose Day has become something of a national institution since its launch in 1988. Every two years, thousands of people have a laugh whilst raising money to help change the lives of poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people across the UK and Africa.

Pupils at Alderley Edge School for Girls will be sporting funny hair and one item of red in return for a donation to Comic Relief, whilst at Ryleys they will all be wearing their silliest hats. Children at Alderley Edge Community Primary School will be dressed in bright clothes with bright hair and taking part in a cup cake competition to raise money for the charity.

On Saturday, 16th March, a giant red nose will be wandering around the village offering people the opportunity to 'Pick Your Nose'.

The huge nose, containing around 100 red balloons, will be moving around the village centre between 11am and 4pm raising money for Comic Relief.

People will be able to purchase a red balloon for £2 and pop it to see if they have won a prize in addition to a Comic Relief 'Nose with Toes'.

The Alderley Edge red nose is the idea of Mitch Gilbert, chairman of the Alderley Edge Traders Group, who is hoping it will become a biennial event.

Mitch said "I like the idea of people having fun and of the event being maintained within the village. I've always had a feeling that people associate Alderley Edge with snottiness so I came up with this as a play on words.

"Comic Relief is a great charity because it is a lot of fun and represents a really good cause."

In addition to the walking nose members of CHYPS will hopefully be providing street entertainment during the day.
