Embankment improvements underway

There is a sloping strip of wooded and overgrown land, between London Road and the football pitch in the park, it is known as the embankment.

There has been, for some time, a pressing need to have the vegetation there cut back.
It should be the responsibility of the owner of the land' but no-one seems to know who owns the land. The railway people say that they don’t own it. Cheshire East Council say that they don’t own it. A search at the Land Registry brought no result. So your Parish Council have taken on the job.

The work falls into three parts;

  1. Cut back the vegetation that intrudes through the metal railings onto the pavement
  2. Thin out the undergrowth throughout the embankment
  3. Thin out the covering over and around the steps from London Road down into the park.

The third reason is based on comments from ladies that the steps are a bit scary in the dark, the road lights on London Road don’t help as the tree canopy blocks their light from the steps/park.

Yesterday saw the first day of cutting by the contractors. Everyone that commented, on passing by, was in favour of the work.

Today will be the second and final day of the cutting. By the way, the Parish Council obtained three estimates for the work and decided to go with the least expensive. Your feed-back would be welcome.

Hi Brian...the park is owned by Cheshire East at the moment...no one seems to own the embankment. C.E. are proposing to hand over the park to the Parish i.e. the Parish Council, at some unspecified time in the near future.
