Village events raise funds for NSPCC

Local children enjoyed some half term activities this week to help raise money for the NSPCC.

On Wednesday a face painting session took place at Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe with Nicky Miller from Tumble Tots. Then on Thursday children learnt to decorate cupcakes with Ashley Humphries using a selection sweeties, jazzies and other goodies.

Judy O'Brien said "One of Mr Simms Alderley Edge objectives is to be part of the local community. During half term we felt it would be good to do something with local children that would benefit children who are less fortunate. Mr Simms of Alderley's chosen charities are the NSPCC and Barnados. We chose the NSPCC this time because we have been running a "Guess the number of Flying Saucers in the Jar" competition for Barnados during February.

"Ashley from Cakes by Ashley and Nicky from Tumble Tots both kindly gave up their time. The children who came to the face painting and cup cake workshop were very supportive and had a really lovely time. Hopefully both events will run again towards Easter."

The children's activities raised £50 for charity, so when added to the money raised at the Valentine's Event, held at Bebb & Sekers Fine Art the week before, a total of nearly £300 was donated to the NSPCC.

Lucy Sekers decided to give all the proceeds from the Alderley Edge Valentine's Event, organsied by five local businesses on Thursday 9th February, to the charity and covered the costs of the evening herself, so a cheque for £238 was accepted by Kate Wilkinson on behalf of the NSPCC.

Lucy said "We sold over 45 tickets, so even though the weather was really horrible we had a great turnout and the atmosphere was brilliant.

"Judy and I felt that the evening was a great success, and Edward, the 11 year old Kings School pupil who is my most regular visitor and total art lover, said it was a 'banging party'! High praise indeed.

"We will definitely be planning more community events in the future, and were especially thrilled at the support given to the NSPCC by everybody, thank you."
