Wilmslow Wells for Africa (WWFA) will once again be hosting their annual Garden's Day, which is always very popular and a major fundraiser for the local charity.
This year's event on Saturday, 29th June, will enable visitors to explore 18 beautiful gardens across Styal, Handforth, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Mottram St Andrews displaying a range of designs and horticultural techniques. Many of which are new or haven't displayed for a number of years.
The gardens will be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm. As usual there will be a wide range of beautiful gardens open to visit across the area illustrating different type of horticulture. Some gardens will also serve refreshments, whilst others will have plant sales to inspire you to get planting.
Shan Bristow, Chairperson of Gardens Day said "Gardens Day is a splendid community day. The gardens are so varied and there is something to interest everyone. In some gardens, you can also enjoy delicious refreshments in beautiful surroundings, and may be purchase a plant or two as well."
Tickets, giving access to all 18 gardens, are available on the day for £15 from the first garden visited, or in advance for £12 from Chelsea Flowers (Chapel Lane, Wilmslow), The Potting Shed (Alderley Edge), Primrose Cottage Nursery (Styal Village) or from Shan (01625 520193) or Donald (01625 590339). Children welcome for free and no dogs please.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Wilmslow Wells for Arica which was founded in 1984 by Brenda Mottershead.
The charity provides clean water and sanitation in some of the poorest areas of Africa having raised over £1.65 million to date, 99.3% of which has been invested in 364 projects covering 19 African countries and benefitting over 650,000 people in desperate need.
To celebrate their 40th anniversary, the group will be holding a special event on 8th June at at Wilmslow United Reformed Church on Chapel Lane starting at 6pm. The celebration will include the launch of their new book showcasing the charity and its work.
This will be followed by a concert of "Water Music" given by The Barnby Choir at 7.30pm. Admission to the main event is free though tickets are required for the concert. These should be purchased in advance from Shan (01625 520193).
