Photos show damage caused as burglars tunnel into jewellers

The owner of a Wilmslow cafe which was burgled last week has spoken about the damage caused by the offenders who tunnelled through to the next door jewellers.

Two men were captured on camera breaking in to the Rise Cafe on Water Lane through the backdoor, at about 9pm on Wednesday, 26th April.

They then spent two and a half hours smashing through the wall behind the service counter in Rise to gain entry into Preston's Rolex store, behind the showroom. However, they fled empty handed after setting off the alarm.

Sahar Zahraie, who took over the cafe 8 months ago said the offenders left the cafe in a complete mess.

She told wilmslow.co.uk "I am really worried. I needed to repair the plumbing, walls etc and buy new cameras and alarm. They also took £1200 in cash from the till."

Rise remained closed until after lunch the following day, whilst the police investigated the crime scene.

Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and as part of the investigation officers are appealing for information from the public.

Speaking last week Detective Sergeant Robert McCubbin said: "This investigation is in its early stages, and we are committed to doing all we can to identify the people responsible.

"The jewellers are located in a busy part of Wilmslow town centre and as part of our investigation we're keen to hear from anyone who was in the area between 10.30pm and 11.30pm and believes they may have seen anything suspicious.

"The same goes for anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage which may aid our investigation."

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, or at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, quoting IML 1533656.

Information can also be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
