'Street party in the Park' cancelled due to weather forecast

Organisers have cancelled today's jubilee celebration in Alderley Edge Park due to the forecast of rain for most of the day.

Mike Dudley-Jones, Chairman of Alderley Edge Parish Council, said "It is with huge regret and sadness that we have taken a Parish Council decision to cancel the Big Screen in the Park for Sunday 5th June. The weather forecast for the day was simply too gloomy and depressing with an over 80% chance of heavy rain over the period midday to 1800.

"After what could only be described as a fantastic day on Saturday 4th June when the Big Screen entertained some 200-300 Alderley Edge residents by showing the incredible Party at the Palace with stunning picture clarity and crystal clear sound the prospects for the Big Lunch and Jubilee Pageant on the next day were bleak.

"The decision to cancel was not taken lightly as many were planning to picnic in the Park. We cannot change the weather and whilst we are British and are more than able to endure a little rainy misery the forecast suggested that a mask and snorkel might be essential!

"Such was the success of the Jubilee Party in the Park on Saturday that many suggested that we look together to repeat this successful formula for other possible events later in the year. That may need a special Party in the Park Team being formed to see the organisation and administration of these events through.

"If that might be something that interests you, please contact the Parish Clerk, Anne Ross and make yourself known.

"Once more, on behalf of the Parish Council, our apologies to you for cancelling something that you were looking forward to."

Congratulations to AEPC on thinking big.

I’ve spoken to many who attended on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed the event albeit scaled-down due to the awful weather conditions.

There may not be another Jubilee to celebrate for a wee while, but let’s hope that we can all get together soon and enjoy a party in The Park after so long stuck indoors.

The Village is blessed with some talented, and creative people - let’s look forward to another opportunity (soon) where they can shine.

I agree with every word Alan, we are very lucky to have our the Parish Council to facilitate our community 'get together'. Many thanks.
