Alderley Edge Parish Council are delighted to announce the return of the Alderley Edge Christmas Light Switch which will take place on Saturday November 13th.

This will be a full day of activities and festive cheer that the whole family can enjoy. There will be a Christmas market hosted on South Street Car Park from 11am - 5pm offering a selection of Christmas gifts, street food, a fully licensed bar and live music to get you all in the Christmas spirit.

Additionally there will be craft areas for mini market visitors, a fairground ride for small children and maybe even a visit from Father Christmas. You can also pop down and create your very own lantern on the market which you will be able to use for the parade in the evening.

Local residents are invited to meet at the top of London Road (adjacent to the De Trafford Arms) at 5pm for a Lantern Parade which will be be led down the high street and into The Parade car park where there will be a brass band and choir, along with festive nibbles and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

The Christmas Lights will then be switched on at 6pm by a celebrity.

Councillor Liz Marshall, who has been leading on the arrangements for this year's Christmas lights switch on said: "This year we wanted to do something a bit different to what has happened in previous years. The pandemic has provided an opportunity for us to have a bit of a re-think and we hope that the lantern parade along London Road immediately prior to the big switch-on will be something that all residents (children and adults) will enjoy being part of, either as participants or spectators."

Cllr Craig Browne added: "As we think of the impact the pandemic has had on many individuals, families and businesses, the celebration of Christmas serves to remind us that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. The symbolism of a lantern parade through the village centre, followed by the turning on of our newly installed Christmas lights, gives us every reason to be cheerful and look forward to the coming of better days ahead."
