Ivor Goodsite leads the walking bus

As part of the on-going works for the Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley Bypass Brook Lane is now closed for approximately 20 weeks to enable the construction of the road over the new bridge.

Access for pedestrians will remain, so a number of parents got together to organise a walking bus for local school children. Loch Fyne restaurant kindly allowed them to gather in their car park this morning, so the children from Alderley Edge School for Girls and Alderley Edge Primary School would be safe.

As a goodwill gesture Birse Civils provided free visibility vests for everyone and they were greeted by Ivor Goodsite, a costumed character developed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme to promote all that is positive about the UK construction industry to a young audience.

The industry mascot, accompanied the school children, parents, and head teachers from Alderley Edge School for Girls, Mrs Goff and Mr Groves on their walk up Brook Lane. Doug Mackie Project Manager for Cheshire East, Dave Hill Project Director for Birse Civils, Wendy Harkin Public Liaison for Birse Civils and Lesley Seal Communications Officer for Cheshire East also walked with the children.

On the way Ivor explained what is happening with the bridge, all about the dangers of a building site and how the children can remain safe.

Mr Lawrence Groves, Junior School Headmaster at Alderley Edge School for Girls commented, "It is a great idea to explain to our girls what is happening in the area and about saftey when walking to school. It was a nice change to be able to take in the fresh air and was an excellent opportunity to talk to the girls on their way into school after the weekend."

Mrs Sue Goff, Headmistress added, "It was a lovely way to start the week with a walk into school and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We will watch the project developing with interest over the coming weeks and would like to thank Birse for the visability vests which we wore with pride."

Although Ivor will sadly not be able to accompany them, the walking bus will depart from Loch Fyne car park each school morning at about 8.15 am.
