
An Alderley Edge resident has have been recognised in the Queen's birthday honours this year for voluntary service to Girlguiding and the community.
Judy Povey has been awarded the British Empire Medal for over 60 years of voluntary service to Girlguiding as well as service to the community of Alderley Edge, since relocating to the village over 35 years ago.
Mrs Povey is currently Guide Leader for 1st Alderley Edge Guides, District Administrator, Cheshire Border Long Service Award co-ordinator and mentor/verifier for new leaders to name but a few roles. She is also the Chair of the Alderley Edge Scout Hut, one of the oldest in the Country, and as such can regularly be seen arranging maintenance and overseeing the bookings and finances of the hall.
Additionally, as Church Secretary for Alderley Edge Methodist Church (a voluntary position), Judy Povey has become a go-to person for the Church, the wider Church District and the community.
