The new Tesco Express store in Alderley Edge has celebrated its launch with a donation to East Cheshire Hospice.

Fundraising Manager Phil Robertshaw was the guest of honour when the new Tesco Express store opened on London Road. Phil was invited to cut the ribbon to declare the new store officially open at 10.30am this morning.

As part of the opening celebrations, store manager Lisa Kenny and her staff presented Phil with a cheque for £500. The store chose to donate to East Cheshire Hospice as part of its commitment to support the local community.

Phil said: "I would like to thank Tesco for the kind donation which will go towards the £6,000 we need to fundraise every single day just to make ends meet."

What a great day. It was lovely to see so many people and thank you for the lovely comments from the customers I met.

I felt so proud to be at the opening and had a wonderful day.

And good luck with the new shop guys.

I recently sent this email to Tesco, expressing my thoughts on the new store.

Everyone was against Tesco coming to Alderley, myself included, but then I realised places like Henley and other fashionable places do need you. We had Somerfield that was downgraded to Co-op.

Co-op is not that bad now and does stock more than Somerfield. But I thought that you would cater for the area, but apparently you don't as my husband informed me being a developer/retailer, you use the same concept where ever it is situated.

I think you could make more of yourself because what is the difference between you and Co-op, absolutely nothing. I thought as Alderley has over the past 5 years grown dramatically with flats and apartments which are owned by single working people who come home and don't want to cook and have a variety of places in Alderley to eat, but sometimes would like to eat in - would be your perfect people to stock for.

i.e. your Finest Range so we could buy a rack of lamb etc and really good veg and herbs, which you only have basil on show. ( Co-op have actually started herbs which I thought was great, but only 2 types, so I came to you thinking I could get all the others, but no only basil - so I have to get in my car and go to Wilmslow or just go out and eat instead.)

Also nuts, I wanted almonds, walnuts - no stock. Pasta, fresh tomato and basil sauce - no stock. To make yourself work you have to fit in with customers needs in the area - they have money and would pay for good food.

Please stock items like finest as you would probably find trade better, but the restaurants might not be so happy!

I've just read Sally Clowes comment re Tesco and Co-op and it's prompted me to finally get my finger out and post my own experiences of the Co-op. Which in essence are very positive.

Since they opened I have not only been pleasently surprised by the additional lines they are carrying, compared to Somerfield, but when I have asked if they could stock other items/get additional item in, they have done. And I know they've done it for others too.

So Sally just ask them for extra herbs!
