Alderley Edge will once again see three Christmas trees lighting up the village this festive season.
Unfortunately, for the first time in many years there was no Christmas Tree in the centre of the village last year but Councillor Craig Browne is pleased to confirm this will not be the case this year.
In the past the Council has put up three Christmas Trees in Alderley Edge - at the top of Ryleys Lane, at Wood Gardens and at The Parade. However, last year it was not possible to have one in the usual position outside Waitrose because of a company policy on flammable objects within a 6m distance of their building.
As a result the Parish Council has explored alternative locations and is pleased to confirm that a Christmas tree will be placed on the island at the bottom of Macclesfield Road this year.
Councillor Craig Browne said "I am pleased to confirm that we will once again have three Christmas trees in the village this year. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to have one on The Parade (outside Waitrose) again, due to difficulties caused by some of the existing street furniture; however, I have been in discussion with ANSA and CE Highways and they have given their approval to a tree being located on the island at the bottom of Macclesfield Road instead."
He added "The junction is an important gateway to Alderley Edge and it will be nice to have a Christmas tree at both ends of the village this year. The footpath across the island will be closed off by CE Highways, whilst the Christmas tree is in situ."

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
I have taken this up with Peaks & Plains, who have assured me that the green container unit will be moved to accommodate the Christmas Tree. The work is being carried out by Allied Roofing and is not due to be completed until January.
Kind regards,
Craig
I'm not grumbling, just curious.
The electricity feed will be taken from the lamp column on the island. This has been approved by CE Highways, who will be putting in a duct underneath the footpath. The footpath will remain closed whilst the Christmas tree is in place, but there will be no road closure (other than during the lights switch-on event, of course).
Kind regards,
Craig
