A brave team from the Alderley Edge Festival Committee dared to to face TV's toughest quiz team a couple of weeks ago when they recorded an episode of the popular BBC2 quiz show 'Eggheads' with Jeremy Vine.
The Alderley Wizards took on the Eggheads in subjects ranging from Food & Drink to Politics.
Team member Maria Rushton said: "We applied at the beginning of December and were surprised when we were swiftly contacted by the production company. After some test question and a self-taped audition, we heard the good news that we had been accepted! We travelled up to Glasgow, where the show is filmed, and had a terrific couple of days. Jeremy and the Eggheads were all very friendly and we were very well looked-after by the production crew.
"Jeremy was genuinely interested in our Festival's history and asked our Team Leader, Anna Meadmore, to explain what we do and why we decided to form a quiz team. Anna explained that the team was formed as part of the celebrations surrounding our 100th Festival, which will take place later this year. The highlight of these celebrations is the concert which will take place in the newly refurbished Fesival Hall on April 23rd. It will feature many of the ourstanding performers from recent years, some of whom have gone on to achieve professional success as musicians and actors. It will definitely be an evening to remember.
"The episode will probably be shown within the next few months - the BBC give us two weeks' notice. We can't say whether or not we beat the Eggheads, but we certainly came away with memories that will last a lifetime."
The Alderley Edge Festival will be held from Tuesday 3rd May to Saturday 7th May. Further details and tickets for the 100th Alderley Edge Festival Celebratory Concert are available from Gabrielle Jeffcoate on 01625 582100.
