We've all heard stories of treasure being found at charity shops but this photograph of a 1916 WW1 soldier donated to Oxfam in Alderley Edge is that and more.

Found in a box under a hundred tattered, faded issues of a weekly newspaper supplement printed during WW1, it has the soldiers name and unit number written in pencil on the back - Private Walter Thomas 26692, Gunner, Grenadier Guards, 1916.

I think it was put in the box by mistake and the family may not even know that it is gone. I would really like to reunite the photograph with the family.
