Cricket: Alderley get back to winning ways

Alderley Edge 1st XI put the last couple of weeks' disappointments firmly behind them on Saturday with a crushing victory over Cheadle. With wickets shared around between Tom Foreman, Charlie Reid, Chris Cook and Sean Sturrock, fine catches from Foreman, Alan Day and Dan Fesmer and sharp, aggressive ground feeling from the very first ball, Cheadle were never able to get their innings going and were bowled out for Nelson – 111 – in 48 overs.

Openers Day and Calum Rowe continued their consistent run with another 50 partnership, and Day went on to pass 50 for the fourth time this season, finishing with 64 not out as Alderley coasted home by 9 wickets, keeping up the pressure on the leaders in the Cheshire County League Premier Division. Current top dogs Toft visit Alderley next week in a key encounter.

The 2nd XI had a chance to move up the league when they bowled Cheadle out for 158, with spinner Mark Warnes taking 7-70, but a weak batting display saw them dismissed for just 101.
