July's Parish Council minutes

Chelford Rd New

Last week I attended the Alderley Edge Parish Council's monthly meeting. Since then we have reported on a number of issues raised at the meeting including the questionnaire which will shortly be delivered to every household in Alderley Edge, asking residents to consider initial proposals for new junction layouts, and the Parish Council's plans to set up a register of complaints for the village, which was prompted by Panacea being granted a licence extension until 4am Monday to Saturday.

I also met with Sergeant Steve Sheppard following this meeting to learn more about Operation Capsule, which is aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour in Alderley Edge park.

The minutes of last week's Parish Council Annual Meeting are now available, click here to read about all the local issues covered; including the car park at The Parade being handed back to the administration of Cheshire East Council, which has raised the issue of whether the recycling site will be relocated, and how discussions with the Family History Society have reached a stalemate over the terms of their lease at the Festival Hall.

I understand that the Family History Society have been paying £1600 per annum in rent to have their research centre based at the hall but this financial year the Parish Council increased the rent to £10,000 per annum. Mike Williamson said "They don't seem to have any intention of negotiating", as they have declined to comment on the legal documents they have been sent. Instead they have sent cheques covering the rent up until the end of the year, but at the old rate. The Parish Council are now seeking legal advice as to their next step.

The Alderley Edge Parish Council meet once a month, with the exception of August. All meetings are open to the public and are held in the Council Chamber at the Festival Hall. Dates and further details for the forthcoming meetings can be found in our events section.
