With both 1st and 2nd XIs washed out on another gloomy Saturday, Alderley Edge's 3rd XI took centre stage and maintained the club's excellent start to the season, keeping up their 100% record with a victory against Stockport Trinity.
Tight, accurate bowling early on from Alex Gill, Katie Haszeldine, Harry Bateman and Ed Pitt restricted the visitors to just 32 runs from their first 20 overs, but then a powerfully struck half century from big-hitting all-rounder Malik allowed Trinity to close their innings on 154-5.
After losing two early wickets, Alderley's reply was marshalled by a beautifully crafted century partnership between Will Chalk (47) and Jonny Scurrah, who finished undefeated on 60 as Alderley closed out a 5-wicket victory which keeps them at the top of their division.
