A local walking group celebrated their centenary with a special dinner this week.
To mark the occasion, Wilmslow & District Footpath Preservation Society held a celebratory meal at the Coach & Four on Friday, 8th November.
Vince Chadwick, member and former Secretary of Alderley Edge, Wilmslow & District Footpath Preservation Society, said "The Society was founded in 1913 with the aim of ensuring that footpaths in the area were protected from illegal closure or obstruction, and it is no accident that many founder members were legally qualified.
"They were not timid in challenging in law any right of way infringements in our area, and walkers in the lovely countryside around here today owe them a debt of gratitude that the footpath network in East Cheshire remains largely intact today despite the considerable urban expansion and farm mechanisation of the last hundred years.
"In 2013 the emphasis of the Society is perhaps more on enjoying a weekly Sunday morning walk of up to 5 miles between 10am and 12 noon than on footpath preservation. However we still work closely with the Public Rights Of Way department at Cheshire East Council to ensure that local paths remain unobstructed and in good condition."
"If you feel that this is something worthwhile you'd like to support, or if you just fancy a relaxed Sunday morning walk of a couple of hours in pleasant company, have a look at our website for more information."
