According to a post on Twitter a distinctive black Google Street View car, with a camera mounted on its roof, was spotted going down London Road around mid day on Friday 3rd April. Google’s controversial new service was launched in March providing 360 degree views of streets in 25 cities and includes photographs of millions of residential addresses, people and cars. Some of those caught on camera are far from happy, including one wife who has filed for divorce after spotting her husbands Range Rover outside her friend’s home whilst he was supposedly away on business. Fortunately for one chap spotted sheepishly leaving a sex shop his image has since been removed. Last week in the Buckinghamshire village of Broughton residents formed a human chain to block the path of the Google spycar, preventing the driver from violating their privacy. Resident leader Paul Jacobs explained: “This is an affluent area. We’ve already had three burglaries locally in the past six weeks. If our houses are plastered all over Google it’s an invitation for more criminals to strike”. According to a Google spokesman “Householders are entitled to request their property is removed from the site but only after the picture has appeared”. If it was a Google Street View car photographing our local streets on Friday I can’t help but wonder if they caught anyone in an embarrassing situation. At least we don’t have a local sex shop!!
