Rubbish Alley

Who is responsible for the steps/alley from west street down to waitrose and the car park ?  The rubbish - paper, cans, food cartons etc are strewn everywhere.  I met an elderly gentleman picking up some of the rubbish but he said it was more than he could do.  It is a disgrace and needs regular cleaning up and even a rubbish bin

Hi Beverley,

this reply is rather late but it took me a while to garner the information.
It appears that the alley and steps are on land owned by Waitrose.
Waitrose intend to clear it and power wash it. They then may also install lights in the wall/s.
Further, Waitrose are about to spend several thousand pounds on landscape gardening around the store, including the ‘forested’ bit at the side.
I think that I’ve got this right: if not, feel free to excoriate me later.
Hope this helps.

Hoorah Waitrose, let’s hope they take over the Car Park management too.

I spoke today with the new Manager of Waitrose (Ian, who seems a decent chap);he confirmed that works were ‘in hand’ re. the Alley.
Under the last Manager (Gareth, also a decent chap) Waitrose undertook to paint the benches in the village. When Gareth left, that initiative rather ground to a halt (as things tend to do, when the guy behind it moves on?) but Ian assures me that it will be re-booted.
We’re getting there eh?

Thank you Duncan for this information - I really appreciate you going to such lengths to get the answer and I will be on Ian’s case should it be needed !!
