A dog tag was found recently in the hills of Hong Kong which belonged to RN Rating John “Jackie” Siddans who served in WW2. He is commemorated on the War Memorial at St Philips Church, Alderley Edge. He married Florence Richardson in 1934. He died on a ship transporting POWs to Japan in 1942. Florence (I think) remarried in 1953 to John Hulme. Can anyone help - I am trying to track family and reunite this item which one belonged to him with his family.

Thank you Dave I think the family were a local one. He was born in 1900 or 1901. The ship he was on was torpedoed by an American submarine. He survived the sinking but died en route to Shanghai on a Japanese rescue boat. His dog tag carried his name, rank, qualification, service number and religion. It must have lain on the spot where it was found for 74 years since Dec. 1941. The story is on a blog I write http://battleforhongkong.blogspot.com/2015/01/ab-john-siddans-rn-and-japanese-soldier.html |
