Dog fouling in Alderley Edge Park

I was in the park on Saturday afternoon (22nd March)
with my two small children.  A man was walking with his dog (off the lead) and he watched as his dog did a huge poo in the middle of the grass where a number of children were playing and then he just walked off. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, I thought maybe he was going to his car for his ‘pooper scooper’. But NO he just clipped the lead on the dog and walked out back to his car. When I challenged him about it he just coldly stared at me and said “it is none of your business.  I was amazed at his reaction and disgusted with what I had seen.
You know who you are!
Shame on you.

I sympathise with your issue Sarah.  I am a coastal warden from Thanet, North Kent and I have to deal with occasional anti-social behaviour. I have friends in Alderley Edge so I know your park.
Your challenge to this man is commendable.  While it may not produce an immediate solution, it has flagged a standard of behaviour that I think is crucial rather than say spoiling your park with signs.
Our mission in Thanet is to accord as much freedom as possible to our stake holders.  Our approach is to limit prohibitive statutes and warning signs where appropriate.  We do use signs here for information, but rarely for stating the obvious.  When did you last see a sign in a shopping mall advising shoppers not to go naked?  Most know dog fouling is wrong.
We use direct interaction with dog owners, cyclists, fishermen and sports people to address offensive or dangerous incidents.
It works.  We have huge public spaces but our beaches and promenades get regular ‘Blue Flag’ awards for cleanliness and facilities.
I read this Forum message as a warning shot to this man, a message to the community and of course, a complaint.

I can totally sympathise with you, I’m tired of beginning what should be a nice day out with my two girls on a walk and ending in a foul mood as more often than once they step in dog muck. And you would be shocked right in the middle of the pavement they leave the mess at least have some respect and clear it up when it’s unavoidable. The problems getting worse and nothing seems to be done about it, only this week did I have to endure dog muck of the middle of my driveway as I watched a young man (carrying no dog bags) allow his dog to poo next to my car and walk of leaving me to have to clean it up. Yes I do believe dog owners should take responsibility and clean up for their dogs, even if it does mean carrying the bag home to dispose of it themselves. However if there are no clear dog bins then people are discouraged to clean up, there is all but one noticeable dog bin in Alderley Edge and i’m sure if there was a clear system dog owners would be happy to clean up and dispose of their dogs waste easily. Sorry for the rant this isn’t directed at dog owners personally but something needs to be done to keep the streets clean. MORE DOG BINS PLEASE!!

It’s annoying because there are signs to say you can be fined for doing it, but there is no way to police it at all! humph!

Well done for speaking up! It’s not like it’s hard to pick up after a dog, I have no qualms of walking with a dog with a bag of poo; it’s not like you’re carrying a live grenade! :S
