Help please. I’m trying to find out the history of the stretch of park alongside Ryleys Lane i.e. the present car park and the land reaching from there up to London Rd. I have been told several things: 1. there was a house + garden, where the car park is 2. there were several houses (a terrace?) 3. there was a small road that ran from Ryleys Lane into the park.
Also where there is a space in the hedge, on Ryleys Lane, allowing people onto the park, there are footings of some sort; was there a gate there? or what?

~Hi Duncan If you look at Cheshire tithe maps on line you will see there is a building where the car park is now .

Thanks Graham…the 1836-51 map shows one building I think…anyone know what it was? The 1910 OS map shows a building (or more?).
I forgot to mention that I had a copy of the original sale of the land to the local authority (I’ve put it somewhere safe; can’t remember where!) when the land was sold by its 3 joint owners (two De Traffords and a n other, as I recall).
Any further help appreciated.

Hello Duncan, If you speak to the Alderley Edge Historical Society I am sure they would be able to help.

Hello again Duncan, I am sure Ashley at the Festival Hall will have a contact. They used to meet in the upper room.  Margaret Smith was one of the founder members with Harold her husband.
