My child has a piece of homework needing to research Alderley Edge and wants some photo’s.

I currently work in Alderley Edge at the office next to the train station and I said I would go out on my lunch break and take some photo’s.

Where would you suggest would be good places?
I’ll be taking a photo of the train station for a start but n ot sure what else is worth taking a photo of.

Place and Road name would be ideal (im still finding my bearings around here)

Thanks

Barclays Bank…v. old building + old & large outside clock…Festival Hall which has been there for over 80 years and if you start a topic on here, you’ll get lots of memories…the balloon shop would doubtless allow photos of weird balloons (it is halloween)...the Edge itself with its Roman copper mines…the Park has some new and rather colourful benches (that doesn’t sound much but first sight makes people smile!)...going up Macc. Rd. shows differences between old Victorian mansions and new ‘footballer’ mansions…good luck.

I would look first at Chorley Hall part of which goes back to the 12th century, then the 17th c? cottage just up Macclesfield road   after what used to be the old post office. The facades of one or two buildings Victorian,Edwardian are worth photographing.

Up on the edge…stormy point and the old well (to do with the wizzard tale?).

Yes I second going up the Edge, ok might take all your lunch break but it’s lovely up there and some fab pics to ge taken. The footballer mansions are a tad depressing imo but a good comparison to old and new AE.

There a great little book available at AE library called simply….Alderley edge and Wilmslow.
It will give you lots of ideas about local sites together with info about their relevant history….you could then go out and photo the sites that are of most interest to your daughter and she can learn all about what their use was in days gone by :-)

Go down Heyes Lane just past the new houses where the Royal Oak was, large place on the right used to be our police station.
Where you work used to be Bridgefords Sale Rooms.Over the road Barrington House used to be our Council Offices.

Bridgfords Sale Rooms. Spent many boring hours sat in there when I was a child. Forgot all about that.
