Eyesore on Ryleys Lane

The large and unsightly bright green double decker bus which first appeared outside Aldeli, and then was supposedly “moved on” from the park car park, back in January, (by Frank Keegan I believe) has now been in permanent residence in the layby on Ryleys Lane for some months now. Day in and day out, we residents are faced with this fluorescent monstrosity looming over us.
Obviously the person responsible doesn’t want to have to look at it himself, preferring to inflict its offensive presence on other people, and has found a lazy, cheapskate NIMBY solution. With the same consideration shown by a fly tipper, he has dumped it in the nearest lay-by, regardless of how it may affect others.
It has been pointed out to him that his actions are selfish and inconsiderate, but this has been totally ignored.
Perhaps he could be encouraged to re-invest some of the money he earns from its use, and make proper storage arrangements.
Can someone please advise (Frank perhaps) how I raise this matter to the correct authority and get it permanently moved?

I think it’s Taxed, MOT and insured and parked on what I think is a Council owned Lay-By so whats the problem ?

I agree Stewart, it is a commercial vehicle making it difficult for anyone using the layby to turn around.

Stewart,

The bus is an advertising gimmick used by Mitch from the balloon shop. I will investigate the ownership of the lay-by since I thought it was Ryleys School. If it is council I will speak to mitch about shifting what is not a pretty sight!

Many thanks Frank. I can assure you that the layby most definitely is not owned by the school. Although they do seem to treat it, and the adjoining grass verge, as the teachers’ car park!

It’s parked on what was part of the old road, so will be CE.

Since the original post, the monstrosity has remained stored (or is it now perhaps abandoned?) in the layby, and, as the trees lose their leaves, is even more of an offensive presence. Frank, have you got any update for us, or can you advise a more formal channel of communication for us to progress this matter?

Had a look at the bus, taxed till 04/14.Might be an eyesore but has the same rights as all the cars parked there. At least it’s not making a mess of all the grass verges as are the cars!!

Hallo Mike ... why pick on the Parish Council? We have no authority over Highways etc. That’s a C.E. matter. If the bus is legal to be there, then is there ought anyone can do; as Trevor writes?

hi Duncan , not picking on aepc was just curious as to why someone has free vehicle storage on the road into the village for a double decker. so if the parish council have not bothered chasing it up i’ll enquire with Cheshire east as to the situation and legality.
the irony I like is theres a double decker eyesore parked up , now if you’d have left that there in the 80s-90s it would be panic stations… new age travellers occupy layby !!!. but because its good old whoevers bus hey chill let them have free parking and vehicle storage :-) wonder if bostocks have enough room for their fleet?

Hi Mike…sorry for delay in answering…I’ve been in India for 2 weeks…yes it was sunny and hot!...in Kerala they have 3 metres of rain per year…they have lots of canals…they have no flooding.
I believe that your ward councillor is taking this matter up with C.E.
If, as some have claimed, it is legal to park there, then what might one do?
I truly don’t believe that the ownership of the vehicle has ought to do with it.

Dare I venture the suggestion that the bus sized carbuncle may have been moved to a more appropriate location? It left on Monday and has not been seen since. Maybe the owner has decided to park it outside his own house (Yeah, right!!)

What sort of bus is it. Now if it were a North Western One that would be different!

Once again the selfish cheapskate who uses Ryleys Lane to secure free storage and advertising, has imposed his unsightly green monster on the local community. What can we do to prevent him taking the proverbial?
I for one will certainly think very carefully about where I would go to purchase the services he offers.

It spent the summer parked behind the old County Hotel nr the hockey club, of course now you don’t need to display a TAX disc so you don’t know if it’s taxed if it does not show one.
But then again, it’s no worse that the cars parked on the grass verges from Ryleys School !

I am also unhappy about The Ryleys teachers’ cars that park on the grass verge, but that does not make the green monster any less objectionable.
In my opinion it is worse because 1) it is there 24 hours a day 2) it is there on holidays (eg this week) and weekends 3) it is visible for miles around - because it is large and bright green 4) it is offensive to look at and has no place in a rural landscape (or even on the Chatsworth estate!) and 5) the teachers have an excuse in that they are parking to go to their place of work.
More than likely it is there because the owner is too tight or lazy to arrange for proper storage or advertising, and has no connection to the location. Once again I would suggest he park it outside his own house rather than mine.
