Hi Caroline
Yes there is a regular bus service from Alderley Edge to Wilmslow, Manchester and Macclesfield. Service No. 130 - the timetable is here http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/uploadedfiles/Services/North_West/NWMA130_300809_160809.pdf.
The trains also go to Wilmslow, the airport and Manchester.
Not sure if you’ve found the restaurant section of our Business Directory yet http://www.alderleyedge.com/directory/category/restaurants/. All the local restaurants are listed with some customer reviews. We’re spoilt for choice.
The local pubs are also listed http://www.alderleyedge.com/directory/category/bars-and-pubs/. We have 3 pubs in the village: De Trafford Arms, Royal Oak and Drum & Monkey. Up by The Edge there is also The Wizard - but afraid I can’t help re. real ale.
We have a series of local walks in the Hobbies & Interests section of the forum http://www.alderleyedge.com/forums/viewforum/4/. These are very kindly provided by one of our members Roger Norton who is a local footpaths inspector for East Cheshire Ramblers and a voluntary warden with the National Trust.
We also feature a selection of local walks on our other site http://www.wilmslow.co.uk which are kindly provided by another member Graham Beech - these walks are mostly based on his book “East Cheshire Walks”. http://www.wilmslow.co.uk/search/results?q=walks&c=news.
There is also an article on wilmslow.co.uk about the East Cheshire Rambler’s 2010 walks programme http://www.wilmslow.co.uk/news/article/2010-walks-programme-is-biggest-ever/.
In addition to the Alderley Edge Methodist Church we have St. Philip and St. James which is just off London Road at the Northern end of the village and St Pius X which is the Catholic church on Stamford Road.
The new Co-op supermarket is open on a Sunday, as is the newsagents Martins - both on London Road.
I hope this helps and your move to Alderley Edge goes smoothly. It’s a great place to live so I hope you will be very happy here.
