Asked the traffic warden if its fine to move my van to another section of 1 hour parking so I can finish job off. He said he would ticket me if I changed from parking on Clifton street (oxfam) to outside the Botanist.
There’s no indication of this restriction on the signs. Is this the case, or is he wrong?

There is a no return with 1 hour also parking restrictions for loading early am outside tesco’s, on Clifton street it is no return within 2 hours, I suspect he has seen your van parked for long periods of time and under the new regime of parking in Alderley edge, they will probably ticket you next time. Suggest you pay and display like the rest of the people do. I know it is difficult when working as you need to get to your van easily and often.

As you say, there’s no return, but is that in all zones in the centre of AE ? I would presume each stretch has its own restriction, not village wide restriction as I would presume that would need to be marked on the signs

Craig,
Each street is different, but where there are parking restrictions there are also restrictions on returning within a certain time. But, there has to be a sign saying what the restrictions are. If there is no sign, then any restriction is invalid.

That’s what I thought, the traffic warden was wrong. The restriction is only for each separate bay. A bit worrying when a traffic warden doesn’t know the rules he’s meant to dish tickets out with!

Mark, I do park in the pay and display as well, but it’s a 2 hour restriction. Difficult being a local tradesman working in a local property when it’s on the main street.
Ps, there’s a very handy space in that pay and display next to the steps at the back that the van doesn’t get in everyone’s way :-) Bonus !

Craig,
IF you look up the cheshire east website for parking tickets, there is a long list of reasons why a ticket can be appealed. I am not sure, but I thought one of those would cover local workmen needing to be close. There is, I think, a recognition that tools need to be near the working area. I have seen skips etc in parking spaces for days, and no action.

I pulled into Clifton St today in my works van today and went to the cash machine, when i came back to the van the traffic warden was stood by it issueing a ticket. I had parked in a residents only bay by mistake, this was a genuine mistake, i thought it was a limited time bay. I can’t believe he didn’t mention the restrictions to me when i walked past him on the way to the cash machine [ he watched me park up] or to my workmate sat in the passenger seat. I asked him why he hadn’t mentioned it to me or my workmate who would have moved it immediatley and he said it wasn’t his job to inform people. So much for common sense. Second ticket in 31 years. Lesson learnt.

I find the comments between Mr Keegan and Craig quite interesting and Mr Keegan seems to know l a lot about the subject as to where when and how long it is correct practice to do so. This doesn’t surprise me as, after all he is a Parish Councillor. What did surprise me was seeing Mr Keegan parking outside Tesco this morning and going off about his business when surely he must know that you are not allowed to park there before 10am.
