Do you have memories of the Alderley Edge Carnival or Rose Queen processions, which happened each year in the village up to (we think) the 1980s? If so I’d really like to hear from you through this forum.

I’m helping Christine Munro to organise this years May Fair - an event that she reinstated three years ago. As part of that I’m writing up the history of the event for the 2013 May Fair programme - with the help of the Alderley History Group, who have kindly supplied some old photos.

I would welcome any memories of residents who remember the event as it was up to the last time the Rose Queen procession took place. I’d especially like to know when it stopped and why.

I was the crown bearer for the Rose Queen sometime back in the late 50’s.  I have a photo somewhere - I’ll see if I can dig it out and post it.
I remember wearing a satin uniform and the crown was on a satin cushion but the wind kept blowing it off so someone had to use a safety pin to keep it there

I have a photo of myself as one of the rose queens attendants if you are interested.
