Does anyone have knowledge of old maps of the area ?
I am looking for where Street Lane was located in the Parish of Chorley Alderley Edge back in at the time of the 1861 census.

It appears from the census pages that 12 Street Lane was somewhere between the De Trafford Arms and wherever the Post Office was located at that time. On the 1861 census no. 12 Street Lane was occupied by an attourney and his American wife.
Thank you for reading and hoping someone has this sort knowledge

I seem to remember as a kid being told that the current Congleton road, climbing as it does up to Whitebarn and then down again to the Old Cross was not the old coaching road ,it being made to enable the villas to be sited so as to enjoy the elevated view across the plain to the West. A main coaching route, which this was back in the day would have been much more likely following the flat contour at the base of the slope, a Northbound extension of what is now Lydiate Lane.

Hi Louise a few yrs ago i applied to Chester Library they had on microfiche a lot of very old maps of Chorley as it was then known, including an old tithe map of early 18th century. They were very helpful and for a small cost photocopied what i wanted.

If you google it, it says “Street Lane” is an old Romano-British road running south from Hanford (=Handforth?) through Wilmslow and Alderley.

The junction of Macclesfield Road, London Road & Chorley Hall Lane was apparently known as “Street Lane Ends”

It’s difficult to tell from the online mapping whether Street Lane and London Road are one and the same thing or not
