Can anyone give me any information about what has happened to this Festival.
It used to be a really big event in the village, the size of the Festival Hall gives a clue to it’s importance. I worked with and for the Festival from 1962 until 1984 in practically every capacity and cannot believe it has just disappeared from the calendar. Some years we would be running 7 halls on a Saturday and as every hall needed a minimum of 4 volunteers every three hours all day you can see that the village was involved “big time”, for the three-day festival. The organising took from January to May alone. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers this going on. Joan Coulson formerly of Brook Lane.

It’s still thriving Joan. Celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011 and will take place from 7-11 May this year. Still a highlight of the year for many locals. All details via alderleyedgefestival.com. |

Thank you Keith and Stuart. I am so relieved. I am new to AlderleyEdge.com and when the events calendar came to May 15th and no mention of the Festival, I thought it had ceased to be, which would actually have upset me quite a bit. I wonder if any more of the Committee from my years are about? They will be a bit long in the tooth by now, as I am myself but one never knows. Am just about to open up the web site |

Dear Joan - it was good to see your post on this web site. I certainly remember you well - I think you were even Secretary of the Festival for a brief period weren’t you? |

Dear Judy, Would love to meet up. Alderley and Wilmslow are still places I visit regularly so as I am sure coffee is a distinct possibility. Will contact Keith when I am sure I can get down from these snow clad hills. Joan. |
