I think I am missing something? I have just read the above article in the Wilmslow Express, I am not sure expensive parking is the problem for visitors to Alderley Edge. Most on street parking is for 1 hour (I know this keeps it turning over) but 2 hours gives people more time to have a bit of a mooch around the shops. From Friday lunchtime onwards you are lucky to get a parking space in the village, including the pay & displays (which given the area being visited are not really high, are they?) So, is it really the charges that are keeping people away? I am not neccessarily saying we need more parking, I am just not sure how the above scheme will help?

The problem with Alderley is that it is inviting the rich and kicking out the poor! I’m suprised they havn’t come up with a 4x4’s carpark only! When they re-surfaced the carpark they added 2 more spaces onto the end of the first row! Now causing a great problem getting in to park as well as getting out. People are going on about how to get people back to the village to spend instead of going to the out of town sites! Answer! Stop granting planning permision for licensed premises! Why doesn’t someone do an opinion poll of what shops we want in the village then approch those companys to see if they would come into the village. People might pressume those types of shops wouldn’t consider coming to a village but this is Alderley Edge!
Wilmslow hasn’t got the right sort of shops neither so no competition there, so why not try and get them in Alderley first!
Incidentally, I just watched the programe on BB2 about poundworld and them trying to open up more stores!! lol

Now that is what we really could do with - Poundland on one side of London Road and The 99p Store opposite!!!!!
