Noise nuissance neighbours

Does anybody have any idea how to get rid of noisy neighbours?

I have done the following:

calling the Police - They don’t come out anymore for noisy neighbours

Called the Council - they revered me to the Enviromental Agency.  I have to keep a log when the noise happens.

Called the Estate agent the is letting the property, useless!!!!

The Police and the Enviromental Agency emergency helpline told me to live with it.  Nothing can be done until the next working day, that is usually a Monday.

The noisy neighbours are usually not to bad up till midnight and then the noise starts. Laughing, screaming, music, smoking outside on the decking and talking very loud.

Everytime I have to go around and ask them to keep quiet, everytime they promise it won’t happen again, but talking to drunk grown up men is useless.  They are not the homeowner, they are tenants.

Please help.

Ask environmental health at Cheshire East to arrange to visit at a specific time and record them. They don’t run an out of hours service, but if it is persistent, they should come with measuring equipment, so that they can quantify the breach!

Laura, i had this problem and telephoned Macc borough council twice and i have to say they told me to log everything, even though i was absolutely desperate they were not very helpful and reticent to do anything to help me to stop this very big problem. Existing system is totally inadequate to say the least, the only thing i can suggest is to persist, and perhaps consider speaking with a solicitor to get clarification on what the council is supposed to do. The only other thing is that is there is abusive language that can be heard from outside their house then that is where the police can get involved, if there is this kind of bad language i think it appropriate to speak with the local community police officer.

Mark, yes I have to log everything.  The problem is that the neighbours are now quiet again after I went around in the middle of the night to tell them off.  If there was bad language involved I can do something about it, but they are 4 Polish men and I don’t understand Polish.  I did speak to the local Police Officer at the end and had to email everything I had to him.  I received a BCC email from him what he send to the Enviromental Agency and that was it so far.  I also told the Officer that we are at this point of thinking taking things in our own hands because nobody wants to help and we are always told that we have to live with it. His answer to this was the Police has to come out. So I don’t know anymore what is what and who has to do what.

If you go on line and look up the Anti-social behaviour act 2003 you might find something on there or look into landlords responsibilities. There should be some form of ombudsman over landlords that you can get in touch with. Total waste of time going to the council or police. The company renting it out have to give you the information for their complaints procedure! Good Luck

Laura, you poor thing what a nightmare. It is interesting to see that the priorities for the police in our area are, on their website, speeding and parking! The police should send either someone from the Community Action Team or a Police Community Support Officer to see you, they should then pay a visit to the neighbour, discuss things with them, and then come back to you with a response and then monitor the situation. We have used this service and I have to say it worked well. They are there to manage anti social behaviour it is the prime purpose of these particular teams. So maybe insist you see someone from these teams in writing, and copy your MP in, it might seem a small issue but it is what there are there to do, help their constituents.

I think you’ll find the local PCO is too busy fighting Bovine crime….it’s on the increase locally :)
