"Under-a-tenner anyone?"

Just wondering if this people-power website could be expanded
to include a non-commercial sales forum, similar to the
old-style free ‘under-a-tenner’ small ads.

It could also help with re-cycling solutions for those who want rid of
old equipment, bikes, horticultural surplus, etc., etc.,n whereby
the item is free on collection and kept out of landfill.

Jerry, whilst I believe this website provides a valuable service to the community it is not a public service or people powered - it is my business.

I work 60, 70, sometimes 80 hours a week for very little in return.

We are currently in the process of reviewing the websites, redesigning them and making fundamental changes to our offering.

Unless I can earn an income from the websites that is commensurate with the time required to run them, then they are not sustainable and will not exist next year.

We are currently considering offering opportunities for local residents and businesses to post notices, but free listings is not an option.

Other service such as Freegle have been set up for this purpose.

Lisa, many thanks for your reply. I apologize for appearing to take your superb efforts for granted and would willingly pay to advertise on this site, firmly believing you should be rewarded for all your sterling work, bravo! I was not familiar with your ethos and credo and the reference to ‘people power’ was drawn by the obvious fact that this site has become a powerful instrument of the free press within our community, for which many are deeply grateful.

Anyway, to return to my original post; I miss the old days of copious pages of small ads in The Advertiser and M.E.N. - bargains galore!

The postcard ads running in Martin’s, Co-op, Tesco and Post Office etc., are a sad and unappealing format, hardly worth the effort.

Yes, there’s ebay and Freegle but I feel something is missing. Maybe I’m just voicing the quest of Merlin for yet one more white mare for his illustrious stable . . .
