This Beggars Belief

Last night (Wed.) a black labrador was found wandering in the middle of the road on Hough Lane. It was picked up by a friend and brought to my house.

That’s probably the dogs life saved plus an accident less! This is where it gets bizzare and opens your eyes to certain failings.

Call Police. We don’t pick dogs up ring the dog warden in the morning.

What am i supposed to do with it then? If you can’t keep it turn it loose again.

Presumably to cause an accident!!

Second point. Why are a large outfit like C.E.C. only open office hours?

They should at least have people on call, instead of thank you for calling we’re closed.

Terry - well done for your responsible approach and good citizen like approach. Cannot believe that the police said that, what an irresponsible position.

Speaking as an ex-dog warden (private company working fot MBC, SMBC, etc.etc.) I am very supprised that you expected the police to pick up a stray and that you expected a Dog Warden to be “on call” at CE.

In Manchester we use Pet medics, which provide 24h emergency cover. The police dont handle this type of incident as without wardens etc being on duty there is nowhere for the police to house a stray dog. They would not be kept at the working kennels.

Why on earth would anyone call the police about a stray dog?

You’re obviously very young Steve, most local police stations had kennels and strays were taken in overnight. If the owners wre found they were charged a fee for food and board and a fee for release,as i know to my cost.

Thanks for the compliment Terry…...however it may well have gone straight back home if you had just left it alone!

It was heading the opposite way from where it lived so there was more chance of it gettin run down than gettin home!!

Dog goes for a stroll…let’s call the police!  If we did that every time we saw a dog off the lead, the boys in blue wouldn’t be able to deal with any other issues…like serious crime.  From your last statement, you imply that it lived locally…..I’m sure it would have gone home when hungry..probably without causing a multiple pile up!
