The most dangerous roundabout on the A34

is it just me or does anyone else sit in intrepidation at the new roundabout of the A34 Alderely Edge Bypass.  In the rush hour it is very often carnage with completely the wrong lanes being used.  Tonight a 3 car convoy attempted to cut me up as I crossed the roundabout going towards Alderley Edg from Wilmslow.  They decided to use the inside lane ( which should be used to proceed onto the bypass towards wilmslow only) I was in the right hand lane which is the correct lane. At some point there will be a serious accident.

Fiona, I try to avoid using the roundabout as much as possible for the very reason you mention.
I have to drive to Wilmslow for work every day but now use Heyes Lane/Hough Lane and Macclesfield Road and it is actually much quicker.
I did submit a post on this site months ago about the lane markings being inadequate but the biggest problem is drivers failure to indicate.

Indicators do not exsist on that roundabout and if they do they have been left on in error. The problem into AE from Wilmslow is that did not widen the road to cope with the traffic flow and drivers who have no concept of the road discipline required.  The Highways Agency need to reinforce with better signage. It really is a mini Champs-Elyees

I find the smart ****s using the wrong lane to jump the cars in the correct lane get out the way when I take my rightful line in my large van :-) lots of annoyance and swearing from them for some reason…....:-)

Very Strange, I also have mention this weekend how bad the roundabout is laid out. The worst bit is so many users who doesn’t indicate or signal wrongly.  I’m surprise how few accidents compare to the mass amount of idiots we have on the road! When they shutting the by-pass, Heyes Lane will be a lot busier!

Just crawling up to the junction tonight from Wilmslow and looked for the road signage. Now that is a joke. It signposts Wilmslow left and AE straight on but no indication of which lanes they wish you to use. That is on the Tarmac under the cars!

The roundabout layout is a problem - but I defy anyone to come up with a solution.  I have racked my brain to think of a better layout.  Fixing one approach just creates problems with another.

A suggestion maybe that they actually put lane markings on the roundabout. It may work but it does rely on people being able to drive!  I feel that some of the commuters still think it is the old format before the new AE section was opened
