Hi there!

I’m new to the country and am just going through the process of renting in Alderley Edge, hoping to move in next week.  I’ve just looked up the Council Tax charge on the council website and it says *excluding Parish charge*.  Can anybody advise me where I can find out the exact cost of the additional Parish charge?

Many thanks,

Amanda

Go to

http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/pdf/2012-13%20Charges%20.pdf

It will tell you the total payable including the additional Parish charge.

Amanda,

Everything in Local Government is measured by property valuations, and the base figure is the Band D property valuation. Cheshire East Council charges £1,216 per Band D property, and then amounts get added for Police and Fire services and that totals about £216 per Band D, bringing the sub-total to £1,432. The difference between £1,432 and any Band D listed in the link provided by Alan will the precept levied by the particular Town or Parish Council.

If that isn’t confusing enough, Council Tax is expressed as a factor of Band D i.e. Band D is 9/9. Band E is either 10/9 or 11/9 and the highest band, Band H is 18/9.
