Land at the back of 89 - 93 Heyes Lane

This piece of land which I believe is owned by Jones has been a wilderness for many years and was formerly gifted to the RSPCA I think - lots of old trees, birds and other wildlife. Today the bulldozers moved in and razed it all to the ground. Does anyone know if planning consent has been given to build on this land as we live here and have seen no notices anywhere or any local consultation. I am devastated for all the birds who nested there and the lovely old trees which have simply been felled. All in a day!

I believe the property including land was left to the RSPB. The land was not to be developed and estate used for the benefit of bird and animal life. The RSPB ignored the wishes if the donor and sold the property to Peter James Homes who yesterday came and “tidied” the land up by chopping down one hundred year old oaks and removing the vegetation of nesting birds. This has decimated the area and left the community in Heyes Lane dazed. The tactic of razing land in this way ahead of a planning application is a typical tactic and leves me wondering on the ethos of the business. Mark Jones was asked to visit the site and see the devastation but declined fearing “an angry mob”, suggesting a guilty conscious.

I hope the community takes note of the way Peter Jones Homes do business and object to any planning application.

The late David Brown of 83 Heyes Lane (known as Belmont cottages) in his will left his house and the allotment land to the RSPCA to remain undeveloped and left for the wildlife. How is it that the RSPCA could have sold this to a global developer against David’s wishes? They have now stripped the land, felling mature trees including oaks which were the homes to nesting birds and wildlife. These houses and land have been here for nearly 200 years and have always been the home to a variety of wildlife. No notices or warnings of this action was served to any of the neighouring community who are united in their devastation of this act. The Council failed to intervene when 2 years ago on a visit to the site they promised us that this allotment land would be retained as a green space in accordance with the late David Brown’s wishes.

When i spoke to one of the work men who was clearing this site….. he said the oak trees were diseased and permission was granted to cut them down as the new owners of the land “Jones Homes” were concerned they might fall down and cause damage. It was clear to see that these trees were hundreds of years old with plenty of new growth. How many trees do we see around our countryside that look like this and never cause any damage??  They would still be standing as well as all the other trees, established shrubs and bushes if only???..The men said they were clearing the fly tipping of rubbish but i was shocked to see that this rubbish was just pushed to the side. They have not removed it..(.It is still there). The side being the over grown land which shows in my house deeds that this is Buckhorn Street. Its an absolute disgrace that this has happened. Even more shocking that David Brown left a will with his wishes for the land to be left for animal use only and not to be built on. Shocking…Disgusting….My only wish now is that enough objections to these developers plans will stop any building work going ahead. The skyline has totally changed due to the demolition….Does any one know if there is any law out there to say that this is illegal. These developers must be chalenged…. they cant just come into our neighbourhoods with there heavy machines churning up our private roads.Takeing more green space. Not even a notice to say they were comeing to demolish this site….is this how these developers work???Can any one advise please….....This can not be right.

As an owner of one of the Belmont Cottages for over 20 years, I am absolutely outraged at the total devastation of the land at the rear of the cottages by Deanbank Investments Ltd, a subsidiary of the Emerson Group. The whole area has been razed to the ground, with very mature trees being cut down. The land was specifically bequeathed by the late David Brown to the RSPCA for the preservation of its wild and bird life and not to be built on.  Now it is just a horrific unsightly site.  How can something like this be done in Alderley Edge without any consultation with the current neighbours?  Please may we have some feedback from Deanbank Investments and input from the Council as to their current plans.

I think we have two discussion threads running on the same topic, the other one is here:
